UTeM and BITCOOP Forge Strategic Partnership to Drive High-Impact TVET Upskilling for 2025

Melaka, 27 June 2025 — Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) and Koperasi Bumiputera ICT Teknousahawan dan Teknokrat Malaysia Berhad (BITCOOP) have formalized a strategic collaboration through a Letter of Intent (LOI) to implement a High-Impact Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Financing Scheme for 2025.

The LOI marks a significant step forward in strengthening Malaysia’s TVET ecosystem by aligning academic training with workforce demands through the Place and Train model. Under this approach, selected participants will be placed directly in relevant industry roles while simultaneously undergoing structured skill enhancement programs at UTeM, which will serve as the official Training Provider.

The program will target Malaysian citizens aged 18–55 and will emphasize measurable outcomes such as employment placement, career progression, income improvement, or job retention. Training durations will range from short courses of 7 days to intensive programs lasting up to 6 months, delivered via full certification, modular sessions, or customized formats.

In addition to technical training, the collaboration will also promote the sharing of resources, expertise, training materials, and facilities between the university and BITCOOP.

“We see this as a transformative initiative, empowering cooperative members and future digital entrepreneurs with practical skills that matter in today’s economy,” said Mohd Hisham Mokhtar, Chairman of BITCOOP.

As part of the collaboration, BITCOOP has identified and submitted a list of 30 eligible participants who will benefit from the inaugural rollout of the TVET scheme.

While the LOI outlines the intent and scope of cooperation, both parties confirmed that any financial or operational commitments will be finalized under a forthcoming Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

This partnership underlines BITCOOP’s mission to elevate Bumiputera participation in high-impact sectors through education, digital empowerment, and sustainable economic inclusion.
